My why…

My daughter was born, latched immediately and we had no issues nursing. I had a huge oversupply however. I ended up with mastitis almost monthly, but didn’t realize that was an issue at the time. I directly breastfed her for fourteen months, and pumped to wean up to sixteen months.

When my son was born, he latched well for the first couple days. Then trouble started. He had a definite side preference so took to chiropractor for an evaluation of torticolis. That ended up in a dental referral for oral restrictions, and by then he was almost diagnosed failure to thrive.

From there I found our team; pediatrician, chiropractor, dentist, speech therapist, and lactation consultant. By the time my little guy was 2 months old, he had his ties lasered, and was completely unable to latch to bottle or breast. We did finger & syringe feedings, SNS feeds (Supplemental Nursing System), multiple different nipple shields, all of the tricks.

Around five months old, he latched! We’ve been going strong since!

This experience showed me how important lactation services are and how much lactation workers are needed in my area! I have been a nurse for seven years, and this is where I am choosing to focus my energy and studies! I am excited to see how I can help you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Good question!  We are called The Mama Coach because years ago, when Carrie’s first boy was very small, she often wondered out loud to herself, “Where is my Mama Coach?” and “I need a Mama Coach!”.  Carrie searched and searched for qualified support and realized there was a need for qualified support for new families. We recognize that our name can give the impression that we only serve moms, but we will continue to work and learn to ensure our messaging is clear that all people are welcome here. Parents carry a heavy load, and do it with grace.  All parents deserve support, and The Mama Coach is the answer you’ve been searching for.

We do not just support moms — we help ALL people.  All are welcome here, and we are committed to providing you with quality support, no matter your gender or family dynamic.  As we learned in nursing school, your family is who YOU say they are.

We get asked this one all the time.  As Registered Nurses, having merely one method does not align with how we were trained in University to utilize the nursing process.

The Nursing Process is defined as, a “systematic approach to care using the fundamental principles of critical thinking, client-centered approaches to treatment, goal-oriented tasks, evidence-based practice (EDP) recommendations, and nursing intuition.  Holistic and scientific postulates are integrated to provide the basis for compassionate, quality-based care” (*1).

Simply put, we will assess your child using our nursing training to determine the best way to help your family reach their goals, walking beside you all the way.  You can choose us with confidence, knowing you have picked the most qualified resource to support your family’s journey.

Yes.  As Registered Nurses, we have years of training on where to access credible guidelines and information. All of our programming is based on extensive research from credible sources.

As Registered Nurses, it is our professional obligation to manage client records and confidential information properly.  We use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that is compliant throughout North America.  Even though we share the same brand, we are all independent Registered Nurses with our own private practices. As such, we each have our own EMR that is private and secure. We do not share EMR or client information between one another without consent.

Often they are — the answer largely depends on where you live and what your private insurance covers.  For example, in Canada, our services are covered under ‘Lactation’, ‘Registered Nurse Services’ or ‘Health Spending Accounts’.  In the United States our services can be covered as well, through HSA or FSAs.  Reach out to me for more information.
